We were here for a casual Sunday brunch and the wait is insane! We waited for 55 mins for our order (just 4 dishes) and we clearly asked for appetizers first and all the food came at once and it felt like we were just sitting and doing nothing. For the hype this place has, it's just not worth it. I have been to other Ethiopian restaurants in the area and they were really better even in terms of food. We waited thinking the food would make up for the long wait.
We got the 2 lamb dishes, the Fir Fir and the chicken dish. Only the Fir Fir was good, the other 3 were not thay good at all.
We had to ask for forks thrice and still didn't get it on time.
If you like Ethiopian food or want to try, not this place please. Hence 1 star.
This place is a local favorite! Cafe Selam has fantastic Ethiopian food - and if you live nearby, you’ll start to crave it once a week. I’m not vegetarian, but I love the veggie sample platter which is perfect to share between 2 people. Portions are generous and flavors always spot on. Downside is the wait can be fairly long so come when you have leisure time to spare.
This a small restaurant tucked in a shady Seattle neighborhood. Me being a vegetarian, I went with a vegetarian combo.
The sides tasted good and were too less for the crepes. I ended up ordering a side extra.
Red lentils is the best. The taste is no different than any other Ethiopian restaurant. Would have preferred if restrooms were kept clean.
Service times are under 5mins.
Worth a try if you are craving for an Ethiopian dish.
Swing by Cafe Selam when you’ve got a little time — service moves at its own pace, and is always attentive and kind. For years, I’ve been coming for the foul (ful) and coffee. It’s amazing.
Thank you, Cafe Selam, for always coming through with delicious food and friendly service!! So stoked that y’all have shaded outdoor seating when the weather is nice.
First time trying Ethiopian food and was not disappointed! The meat and sauces were very tasty and the portion sizes were generous, everyone was stuffed by the end! The Ingera was very good and they also offer a gluten free version. …
Awesome Ethiopian food. No-frills and super clean tasting. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The doro wat was perfectly cooked and so tasty. They even had Ethiopian beer to top everything off. Truly a high-quality, class joint for some of the best African food around. Highly recommend!
My family and I enjoyed Ethiopian food for the first time in Cafe Selam, the food was absolutely delicious and the girl that was serving us was a sweetheart, she helped us pick our dishes and explained to us what each one was.
I would definitely recommend coming here.
A no for me — the service was good, with the super sweet lady, manning the counter and offering suggestions on menu items, the meat dish was greasy, the ingéra was way too fermented for my taste, and there was a rat sitting right outside …
At one point, I really loved coming here. The food is good but it seems that now it takes 30 min + to get your food ( whether you are dining in or taking to go) but today I was disappointed to know I paid $18+ plus tip for 1 serving of …
Wonderful Ethiopian cuisine. $. Feels like comfort food. Vegetarian dishes, plus beef, lamb, chicken, and fish are on the menu. Mild spicy for the most part. A few mild-medium spicy meat dishes. Casual atmosphere. We enjoyed good relaxed conversation with with our meal.
